We all make mistakes on vacation. Tackling the World’s most popular theme park on vacation is no easy task. Think of the Magic Kingdom like a giant game of “choose your own queue.” Choose well and you’re a hero; choose badly and you’re debating how you ended up in a 90-minute wait for a flying elephant. We’ve done the trial and error—here are the Top Magic Kingdom Mistakes to Avoid in 2025 & 2026.

Not creating a plan for the Magic Kingdom.
You must plan what you intend to do in the Magic Kingdom. There is just too much to do at the Magic Kingdom to manage without a plan.
The planning process for the Magic Kingdom has undergone significant changes over the last few years. However, there now seems to be a consistent set of tools that you must master: Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass, Early Theme Park Entry, Extended Evening Hours on select nights, mobile ordering, and Advance Dining Reservations. Learn the basics before you go.
Our Free Walt Disney World Planners are a great resource to help create a perfect Walt Disney World Vacation Plan.
You attempt to do the Magic Kingdom in one day.
The Magic Kingdom is a massive theme park featuring numerous attractions
If your vacation only allows for one day, list your must-do activities in advance and build the day around them.

Thinking you have to purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Lightning Lane Multi Pass is the current skip-the-line system, and it isn’t cheap. Plus, it is usually more expensive at the Magic Kingdom compared to the other parks. On a short vacation, you might buy it daily; on a more extended trip, you can be strategic and skip it on some days. Many of the attractions at Magic Kingdom rarely have long waits, even on the busiest days.
Multi Pass selections are in tiers, and you can only select one Tier 1 attraction before your visit. Your other two choices are from less popular attractions in Tier 2, the majority of which don’t have big waits.
The current top-tier attractions are:
- Jungle Cruise
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- Space Mountain
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Once you redeem a selection on the day, you can choose another selection from any tier.
Visit our Guide to learn more about Multi Pass.

Thinking you must pay extra for every headliner.
Magic Kingdom currently has two attractions sold as Lightning Lane Single Pass (pay-per-ride):
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- TRON Lightcycle / Run
Single Pass is not cheap, and for both attractions, a family of four can soon be spending almost $200.
Both do attract long waits, but the lines usually are lighter in the early morning or towards park closing time.

You can’t access the park’s Wi-Fi
Don’t even consider entering without a device to access Wi-Fi. You’ll use My Disney Experience all day for:
- Lightning Lane management & plans
- Mobile Order
- Maps, wait times, showtimes, park hours
- Virtual Queues (e.g., TRON when offered)
- Alerts about changes & closures
Before rope drop: log in, link tickets, add a payment method, turn on notifications, and update the app.
Know height requirements before you visit the Magic Kingdom
If the kids can’t ride Space Mountain, let them know in advance rather than getting turned away in a line. Disney strictly enforces height restrictions. If the kids are too small, you can use a rider switch to allow the rest of the party to ride.
We have created guides to Rider Switch and Height Requirements at the Magic Kingdom, which contain further information.
You didn’t realize how much walking the kids had to do
Sure, they don’t need a stroller when you visit the local park, but many small children will walk more than they do back home. Be prepared to hire a stroller for all children under five and some older kids. Kids will get tired and grumpy at the Magic Kingdom.

Bringing too much into the Magic Kingdom.
Don’t bring too much, as you’ll be carrying it all day.
Make a list of what you need, such as a camera, an autograph book, and a poncho. Make sure you don’t forget sunscreen & a good hat. Additionally, you will need access to an ample supply of water.
We have created a guide to what we recommend putting in your park bag.
Not taking advantage of Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours.
It is a mistake to miss these great benefits!
Early Theme Park Entry is available to all Walt Disney World Resort guests and select resorts. Guests can gain 30 minutes of early entry to any theme park daily.
Extended Evening Hours are only available for guests staying at Deluxe Resorts. Guests staying at one of these resorts can enjoy extended evening hours in the Magic Kingdom on select nights.
Extended evening hours are typically held at Magic Kingdom park on Wednesdays. However, check My Disney Experience as this can change and is often not offered during the Halloween and Christmas party season.

Not having a break.
Don’t underestimate how much there is to do in the Magic Kingdom. Plus, the Florida heat can be unforgiving. It is easy to burn out if you are not careful. Take your time and plan to have plenty of breaks.
Many guests will take a break during the mid-afternoon when the park is at its busiest and hottest.
Not planning dining reservations.
The Magic Kingdom does not offer a vast selection of table-service restaurants. Don’t expect to get a favorite dining location on the day. If standby reservations are available, you will often experience lengthy waits.
A 60-day Advance Dining Reservation window applies, and you can book via My Disney Experience.

Spending too long in the shops.
“The park is now closed, but the shops are still open!”
Need a souvenir? Why waste ride time during the day?
The shops on Main Street USA stay open for 1 hour after the park’s advertised closing time.
Not staying for the night.
Magic Kingdom after dark is special, and the nighttime fireworks are a must. Plus, you don’t want to miss the new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away.
Often, the wait for the most popular attractions will be shorter later in the day, which is another excellent reason to stay late.

Not checking park opening times.
Park opening times vary daily throughout the year. If you visit between late August & December, there will be Halloween or Christmas Parties in the Magic Kingdom on select dates. Parks will close early on these dates for guests without party tickets.
Please check opening times before visiting. Click the link to get all the latest Walt Disney World Park Hours.
Visiting the Magic Kingdom on major holidays
The Magic Kingdom is at its busiest during the summer and public holidays. The park is busy (bustling) during these times. Remember, this is the World’s most popular theme park.
However, you can still have a great time, but be prepared for added crowds. On peak days, plan your Early Entry, late-night, Mobile Order, and Lightning Lane strategies in advance.
