Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a special ticketed event at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, running on select nights from mid-August through Halloween. During this time, Disney transforms the park into a spooktacular wonderland filled with family-friendly frights, enchanting costumes, and magical experiences you won’t find anywhere else.

From trick-or-treating across the park to unique entertainment offerings and exclusive character meet-and-greets, this after-hours event celebrates Halloween in a way only Disney can. If you have been To Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, this event is much more family-friendly.

Whether you’re a die-hard Disney fan or visiting for the first time, prepare for a night packed with eerie entertainment, delicious treats, and not-so-scary fun for all ages!

A Sold-Out Event with Shorter Ride Waits
Although Disney doesn’t release exact attendance numbers, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is frequently a sell-out event. Even though the park gets busy, ride wait times are typically shorter than usual. This is mainly due to the number of entertainment distractions, from fireworks to shows and exclusive character interactions, and the many trick-or-treat stops scattered throughout the park. The special event merchandise and Halloween-themed food and drinks also add to the allure.

Exclusive Character Meet-and-Greets
One of the major draws for guests attending the party is the chance to meet rare and beloved Disney characters. Popular characters often attract long lines, but waiting for these exclusive encounters is worth the wait for many guests. While the Seven Dwarves surprisingly won’t be making an appearance in 2024, you can still meet fan favorites such as Jack Skellington and Sally, Mirabel and Bruno, Jack Sparrow, Moana, Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Mickey and Pals, and Stitch. These unique meet-and-greets are a dream for many Disney Fans!

If you don’t want to spend time in lines, you can also see many of the rare characters in the evening parade.

Spectacular Shows and Parades
Two of the night’s biggest highlights are the Disney Not-So-Spooky Spectacular and Mickey’s “Boo-To-You” Halloween Parade. The Not-So-Spooky Spectacular features a dazzling display of fireworks, projections, and lasers. The event is best viewed from Main Street, with Cinderella’s Castle as the stunning backdrop.

The Halloween Parade, held twice each night, showcases rare characters and is one of the event’s most beloved traditions. The second parade tends to have smaller crowds, so plan accordingly if you’re looking for a better spot to watch.

Candy Galore: Trick-or-Treating Across the Park
A major highlight for kids and many adults is the trick-or-treat stops scattered throughout Magic Kingdom. Upon entering the park, guests receive a bag to fill with candy as they visit various stations around the park.
There’s no limit to how much candy you can collect, and many guests take advantage of the unlimited opportunities by looping back through the lines for more treats. It’s a sweet addition to an already exciting evening.

Our Night at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
We attended Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party on August 23rd, expecting a magical evening ahead. The weather in Orlando had been fantastic for the past 10 days, and aside from a slight chance of showers, everything seemed to be lining up for a great night. Mrs. Modernlifeisgood even declared, after checking the forecast, that there was no need for rain gear.
Two hours later, Mrs. Modernlifeisgood found herself buying an overpriced poncho as heavy rain poured down! Unfortunately, the storm persisted for much of the evening, resulting in the cancellation of several scheduled entertainment offerings and the closure of outdoor rides.

However, the weather cleared up during the last two hours of the party, allowing both the fireworks and the second parade to go on as planned. We’ve heard guests who attended can apply for a one-day park ticket as compensation, though this option doesn’t work for us.

While we didn’t have the best view of the fireworks due to our location behind the castle, the portions we saw were nothing short of spectacular. Although we missed the projections, the fireworks display was still a visual treat. The parade was equally delightful, with noticeable changes from previous years that kept it fresh and exciting.

Final Thoughts
Overall, despite the impact of the weather, we still had an enjoyable evening. Though we rode fewer attractions than we had hoped, the park’s decorations were incredible, and the entertainment that did take place was top-notch. We’ve seen some criticisms online, but in fairness to Disney, even The Mouse can’t control the weather.
