I’m Popeye – Orlando Live 2024

“Jesus Christ,” screams Mrs. Modernlifeisgood.

“No, I’m Popeye,” says the geriatric sailor who has just pounced on her unannounced.

Yes, we are back in Universal Orlando Resort.

The blog has experienced a few hiccups recently, but I feel it is time to give it some love again. I’m unsure why I never finished writing up our last vacation or have even visited the blog recently. The time when we were “22nd Biggest Disney Blog in the World” now seems a distant memory.

The blog was once a “labor of love,” but the original motivation has departed. When I wrote my first post in 2016, it was a bit of a joke after Miss ModernLifeisGood was impressed by meeting a Vlogger named Marcus Butler while we were on holiday.

“I could do that,” I recollect jokingly saying, and suddenly ModernLifeisGood was born.

Marcus had A-level celebrity status for a while; he even appeared on Celebrity Masterchef. However, it seems the shelf-life of a celebrity Vlogger can be pretty short. He no longer updates his YouTube channel, and according to Wikipedia, you can now find Marcus Butler on OnlyFans.

However, could we do it all again? Could ModernLifeisGood reach those heady Disney Blogger heights again? Who knows, but let’s start by writing a few vacation blogs.

So, we are in Universal Orlando for a few days before venturing to Walt Disney World. For this vacation, Auntie Catherine has joined. Auntie Catherine hasn’t had the best couple of days. Firstly, her chosen chocolate pudding wasn’t available on the plane, and she was disappointed to be left with a peach tart. She wasn’t happy, but I enjoyed my chocolate dessert, which I had obtained just before they ran out.

After this, there was a disaster when she slipped over when walking to the water taxi. She has got quite a nasty scrape to her knee but no severe injuries. However, the difference in the United States was noticeable compared to when I broke my shoulder in France.

Only one person saw Auntie Catherine fall, but he came over, helped her get up, and ensured she was ok. In comparison, several hundred people witnessed me fall in France, and no one came to help. Bonus point to our American friends.

The Bell Boy who takes our luggage to our room informs us that Universal Orlando has been quiet recently. “It is the quietest I have known it in the ten years I have worked here,” he tells us, presumably forgetting the pandemic years.

Universal Orlando’s new theme park, Epic Universe, opens next year, and guests may wait until then to visit. There aren’t many new attractions at the resort this year, which will encourage attendance. The Bell Boy also thinks the economic downturn is significantly impacting guest numbers. However, our observations are that the resort seems very busy.

Our next few weeks will be jam-packed, but I will try to write the occasional live blog before completing more useful guides of things we experience during the vacation. We plan to experience Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, Discovery Cove, and Universal Orlando Passholder Night in the next few weeks.
