We spent our final day at Universal Orlando Resort, revisiting attractions we wished to do again in the parks. Early evening we took a taxi to Animal Kingdom Lodge to start the “Disney Side” of our vacation. We will discuss our initial Disney thoughts in our next post. Mrs. Modernlifeisgood and Little Miss Moderlifeisgood also spent the day playing with their “Geek Sticks.”

Before we discuss “Geek Sticks,” a quick update on Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Just before we left Universal, we noticed Hagrid’s had quite a short line after a delay due to inclement weather. We seized the opportunity to grab a place in line but were hit by the notorious reliability issues. After twenty minutes, the line stopped moving, and after one hour, we gave up! The ride was down for another couple of hours after we left.

“Geek Sticks,” also known as Magic Wands, allow guests to cast magic spells throughout The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Various events happen if you successfully cast your spell (move your hand correctly) throughout Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. I can’t see the attraction of buying a wand, but judging by the number of people casting spells, it seems I might be in the minority. Universal is undoubtedly making plenty of money from wand sales, with them costing from $59 plus tax!

Lost Hat Update
Regular readers of our Live Blogs will know we lose quite a bit when on vacation, especially sunhats. So far on this vacation, we have lost two hats in five days. The first hat I lost on the first day, we don’t know where!
The second hat was lost by Little Miss Modernlifeisgood when she failed to read the signs correctly on Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster. Instead of taking her hat off, she left it on during the ride, and it soon took a flight into a nearby tree.
We will continue to keep a tally of hats lost during the vacation.
