We haven’t written much here on Modernlifeisgood recently. It isn’t due to a loss of interest in the blog, but I struggle to get excited about Walt Disney World in 2022. Yes, the 50th Walt Disney World Celebrations are exciting, and who can’t wait for the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind? However, it is the worry that someone will cancel yet another Walt Disney World vacation.

When we eventually visit Walt Disney World, it will be our first visit since July 2019. We missed the opening of Galaxy’s Edge by a matter of days. Since then, we have canceled vacations on July 20, October 20, July 21, October 21, and various potential standby dates. In October, we missed the opening of the United States border by less than a week. However, despite the ongoing pandemic, I felt overly optimistic until the last minute we would be allowed to travel for each of these vacations. I diligently updated this blog throughout this time, which helped with my vacation planning process.
For each vacation, dining reservations, park passes, and FastPasses(when available) were booked. Big plans were made for holidays that never happened. Now, I am struggling to get excited about the planning process for 2022.
In an ideal world, we would already have visited Orlando. However, a visit before summer 2022 isn’t feasible due to various reasons. So our original flights for July 2020 have been rebooked yet again for summer 2022. Hopefully, they will occur on this occasion!
However, I don’t feel optimistic about this summer of 2022 vacation, nor can I start to get excited yet. “Why?” you might justifiably ask. The world is in a better place, and we are vaccinated(or those allowed to are). Surely 2022 will be the year we eventually get on those flights?

However, until I’m in Galaxy’s Edge, I will have a feeling of impending doom. The recent Omicron outbreak showed how things could change quickly. Spain has just released new guidance on needing boosters to visit. Disney Cruise Line has banned unvaccinated children from boarding. Nobody knows what additional rules a government might create between now and July. Unless Spain changes its rules, those who received early fall boosters can’t visit this summer.
Hopefully, I’m being pessimistic for nothing. The world is undoubtedly in a better place than this time last year. Surely, the Spanish government and other governments will not want to restrict tourism for the third year? However, last year I was 99.9% certain we would be traveling to Orlando in July, but I feel less optimistic this year.
Perhaps, I’m getting worried for nothing? However, at this moment in time, I’m struggling to get excited about Walt Disney World in 2022.
