One of the reasons for booking our Staycation Cruise on Anthem of the Seas was that it offered several ports of call. Several of the cruise lines currently operating for the British Market are providing cruises to nowhere. However, our cruise was intended to visit Belfast and Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands. While we visited Northern Ireland yesterday, today, our trip to Kirkwall was canceled. Unfortunately, “Slippery Sturgeon” decided she didn’t want any cruise ships in any part of Scotland.

Now before you read on, I should highlight that this post is from a few weeks back. We are a little behind with publishing our Staycation posts. The rules discussed in this post have changed since we traveled. Your guess is as good as mine on whether “Bungle Johnson” will change them again.
Slippery Sturgeon has perhaps only been beaten by “Bungle Johnson” for inconsistencies in recent months. The UK intentional travel market has had incomprehensible changing goalposts in recent times. Unfortunately, the domestic market has had little extra clarity. Scots have been able to move to London to watch the European Championships freely, but at the same time, banned people residing in Scotland.
There are numerous Scots on the cruise, but due to Slippery Sturgeon, they are not allowed to stop in their own country. So bizarrely, a Scot can drive to Southampton, stay in a hotel overnight and board a cruise ship, but can’t stop on a cruise in their own country. However, once the cruise ends, they travel home without any restrictions.
However, back to the cruise, today was the traditional cruise day of being busy doing nothing. I’m not sure exactly what we did, but we definitely were busy. We spent our day enjoying the best of our all-inclusive drinks package, competing in the odd quiz, and having fun around the pools. Dinner was at Chops Grille, which despite having excellent food, wasn’t the step above the main dining room to justify the fee. The food on the cruise has so far been exceptional, and despite the social distancing restrictions, the crew is doing a marvelous job.
Banana Bread Alert!
However, all isn’t good on the Anthem of the Seas. There hasn’t been any Banana Bread at breakfast since the first day, and Miss Modernlifisgood is concerned. Will there be any tomorrow?
