Escape Rooms, COVID Tests, and Slow WiFi

July 14, 2021 by @Modlifeisgood Leave a Comment

Day 4 on our summer Staycation, and we are now a few days behind publishing posts. We have now sadly said goodbye to our lodge. Unfortunately, WiFi in our last few hotels has not been good. We are currently in a Premier Inn, and although free WiFi is included, the speed is dreadful. Thankfully Day 4 has consisted of predominantly traveling, and there is little to report. The main aim of the day was to travel to Watford from Shropshire. However, on the way, we would have to stop for COVID tests and there would also be fun in an Escape Room.

The COVID tests were for another part of our trip, which we will discuss in a future point. However, the test called for a short stop at a hotel in Luton Airport. A very bizarre place for a COVID testing center.

We stayed the night at Jurys Inn Watford. The hotel is bright and modern. I suspect it is heavily used for conferences in normal times, but currently, it is getting used for Harry Potter vacations. Harry Potter was the reason for our stay, as tomorrow we are off to the Warner Brothers Studios Tour. We didn’t have any time to explore Watford but from a brief glimpse were surprised to find that it is somewhere we would like to explore in the future.

Exploring Watford

Dinner was at TGI Fridays. I haven’t eaten at a TGI Fridays for years, and I can’t say I was that impressed. The gluten-free choices for Mrs. Modernlifeisgood were abysmal.

Although not planned until the last minute, an Escape Room was the highlight of the day. Alice in Puzzleland is a family-friendly escape room at many Escape Hunt venues. As the name suggests, it is themed around Alice in Wonderland. Despite the Alice theme, you do not have to be too familiar with the story to compete.

Alice in Puzzleland is suitable for children over 8, with fun theming and family-orientated clues. Although suitable for the whole family, it isn’t too easy. Escape Rooms have become increasingly popular in recent years, but I’m not a big fan. However, to my surprise, I did really enjoy Alice in Puzzleland.

A much quieter day than our last few days, but the pace is picking up tomorrow. We are off to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.
