A return to normal or perhaps the new normal? In 2021, like 2020, there will be no Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom. However, unlike 2020, there will be an alternative party in its place. 2021 will be the first-ever Disney After Hours BOO BASH. Whether this will be a one-off or long-time replacement for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party time will tell. However, if you read our recent post on the real reasons for the cancelation of Extra Magic Hours, you would certainly wonder if this might become a regular event.

Many guests will be disappointed that Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom is not returning. Perhaps we were expecting something more as we enter fall and hopefully return to normal life. However, whether you think this is a positive or negative development in the path to normality probably depends on whether you are a glass-half-full or half-empty person. However, it would be hard not to agree that this is a small step to normality.

Disney Extra Hours have been running in various formats for several years. They are hard ticket events that limit park capacity after normal park opening. The reduced capacity means short waits at some of the most popular attractions. The majority of events will run between 9 p.m. to midnight, but guests can use their ticket to enter the Magic Kingdom from 7 p.m. You can even dress up for the occasion!

While the final schedule hasn’t yet been confirmed, and will presumably depend on current safety guidelines, the following are confirmed highlights:-
- Halloween-themed cavalcades
- Candy stops, with plenty of sweet surprises
- Character sightings throughout the park.
- Special performances by the Cadaver Dans
- More than 20 attractions will be open.
- Themed food and beverages(extra charge)
- Special décor, lighting, and music
Previously After Hours events contained unlimited ice cream treats, popcorn, and bottled beverages. It hasn’t been confirmed whether these will be available on top of the candy stops.
Fans of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party will note the absence of fireworks and a parade. It would be fantastic if additional entertainment is included, but for the moment, we can assume it isn’t the plan. Perhaps we might see the return of the steampunk Maleficent the Dragon from the Festival of Fantasy Parade? Maleficent was previously used during Disney Villians After Hours.

I was never a great fan of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. It was costly, and in recent years the crowds were crazy. I think the jury is out on Disney After Hours BOO BASH, but I am cautiously optimistic it might turn into a better value experience.
