Today is Hollywood Studios’ 30th Birthday. We are also continuing our series of likes and dislikes at all the Walt Disney World parks. Today it is the turn of the birthday park, as we discover what we love & hate at Hollywood Studios.

Hollywood Studios is currently undergoing massive change. Several attractions have closed with exciting new expansions announced. The most exciting changes are Toy Story Land which opened in June 2018 & Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge which starts a phased opening in August. However, the park’s birthday has not gone without celebrations too.
Today a brand new nighttime experience debuts. The highly anticipated Wonderful World of Animation will start entertaining guests nightly from today. State of the art projections will take guests through a tour of 90 years of Disney Animation.
While there are lots of exciting upcoming attractions at Hollywood Studios, this is our current list of what we Love & Hate at Hollywood Studios. The whole Modern Life is Good family got involved in picking our choices, including a very odd choice by Miss Modernlifeisgood.

What we Love at Hollywood Studios
Toy Story Midway Mania!
Toys Story Mania was the choice of both Mrs Modernlifeisgood & Miss Modernlifeisgood(age 15). Interestingly none of us picked either of the 2 new attractions in Toy Story Land.
Toy Story Mania opened at Hollywood Studios on May 31, 2008. The entrance of the attraction was move to Toy Story Land as part of the recent expansions.
The ride remains one of Hollywood Studios’ most popular attractions. This 4D attraction allows guest to take part in a selection of classic Midway Games. Toy Story Midway Mania is excellent family fun which everyone will enjoy.

Star Tours – The Adventure Continues
Perhaps, when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens Star Tours will be relegated from our favorite list. However, for now, it was the choice of both Little Miss Modernlifeisgood(age 8) and myself.
Star Tours is a classic Star Wars attraction which was updated in 2011 & is now an impressive 3D simulator. The movie clips you are shown are randomly selected & updated regularly to reflect the ever-changing Star Wars Universe.

What we Hate at Hollywood Studios
Muppet*Vision 3D
A frustrating choice by both Mrs Modernlifeisgood and Miss Modernlifeisgood. In my opinion, Muppet*Vision 3d is an unmissable attraction.
It is dated, but this is the very last Muppet project by Jim Henson. I love the Muppets and therefore enjoy this attraction. However, if time is tight other guests might want to follow Mrs Modernlifeisgood’s lead and consider skipping.

Alien Swirling Saucers
Alien Swirling Saucers was my choice, and there isn’t anything to dislike about the ride. In fact, I actually quite enjoy it. It especially good fun to ride at night.
However, it has ridiculously long waits for an incredibly short ride. I hate the line, but I don’t hate the ride!

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
To hate a ride that hasn’t even opened yet is an interesting choice. However, Miss Modernlifeisgood has put it at the top of her Hollywood Studios hate list.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway construction has been delayed and is now not scheduled to open until Spring 2020. The ride is getting built in the Chinese Theater which used to house the Great Movie Ride. The Great Movie Ride was Miss Modernlifeisgood’s favorite attraction!
“They closed the best ride in the park and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway isn’t even going to open on time” she explains. “I know I am going to hate the ride because of this”. It is difficult to argue with her judgement.

That completes our Love & Hates at Walt Disney World series. You can catch up with our previous reviews by clicking the links: the Magic Kingdom, Epcot & Animal Kingdom.
