We love Epcot at Modernlifeisgood. It probably has been our favorite park at Walt Disney World during most of our visits. However, many attractions are getting a bit dated and new additions in recent years have been sparse. A refresh of Epcot has been rumoured for several years and was confirmed at D23. So far we have only received a few confirmations, but Epcot rumours persist of new pavilions in World Showcase, a Mary Poppins ride in the United Kingdom & a complete rebuild of Future World. Here are all the confirmed Epcot Updates coming soon to Epcot. Also, we also include all the latest Epcot rumours. Our Guide was last updated in March 2019
Confirmed Attractions Coming Soon to Epcot
A Guardians of The Galaxy Attraction is replacing Universe of Energy. The dated Ellen’s Energy Adventure closed for the last time on August 13, 2017. If you have been to Epcot recently, you can’t have missed the building of this attraction, and it is huge. The attraction will be one of the world’s longest enclosed coasters. A new building is being built next to the current Universe of Energy Building to enclose it.
A new film for the China Pavilion was confirmed at D23. No opening date has yet been set for this Epcot update. An updated film has also been announced for the O Canada! 360-degree show.
Epcot Forever. IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth is due to close after the 2019 summer season. A new night spectacular is due to launch in 2020. Surprisingly Disney has announced that there will be a new interim show called Epcot Forever until the BIG NEW SHOW opens. Epcot Forever will feature classic Epcot tunes with fireworks, music, lighting, lasers, and special effects kites.
Beauty & the Beast Sing-Along This new show will be opening in the France Pavilion. I’m sure it will prove to be very popular, but it is hardly an E-Ticket attraction. This attraction is expected to open in spring 2019, but no opening date has been announced yet.
A new Signature Dining in the Japan pavilion. This experience will be inspired by the natural beauty of Japan and will add to the current 2 table service restaurants available in Japan.
A new Ratatouille Attraction similar to that opened at the Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris in 2014. The attraction will be located in the France Pavilion with the show building being placed between Morocco and France Pavilion. The entrance for the attraction will be on the International Gateway side of the France Pavilion. An early rope drop tip might be that guests arriving early might want to enter via the International Gateway. Perhaps the new Disney Skyliner might become a very popular transport method to enter Epcot?
Although no opening date has been confirmed as yet, it has been announced it will open in time for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021. Having ridden the French equivalent, with my broken shoulder, earlier this year I think this is going to be a must-do attraction.
It has been expected that Future World is set for a massive redesign in the coming years. However, until recently announcements have been relatively sparse. However, there have been plenty of rumours including a long term closure of Spaceship Earth. This has now changed with a new entrance to the park, and a new pavilion announced:
The entrance to Epcot is getting a significant redesign. New pathways, green spaces and a newly reimagined fountain have already been announced. The Leave Legacy photos will also find a new, more appropriate, home just outside the park. Disney promises further transformation with further announcements due soon.
A Space-themed table-service restaurant adjacent to Mission: SPACE, inviting guests to travel high above the earth for an unforgettable dining experience
A new Experience Center in the Odyssey Events Pavilion will be opening so guests can see previews of the changes being made to Epcot. This new area will open in 2019.
A new Play Pavilion will open in the former Wonders of Life. Wonders of Life closed in 2007 and since then has been used occasionally as the Festival Center. The new pavilion has not yet got an official name but Dinsey is promising “first-of-their-kind experiences devoted to playful fun, inviting guests into an innovative, interactive city bursting with games and hands-on activities.” The new pavilion will open in time for Disney World’s 50th anniversary so guests can “interact with favorite Disney characters in an energetic metropolis unlike anything ever seen before at Epcot.”
World Showcase Epcot Rumours
A new pavilion in Epcot World Showcase has been top of many fans lists for many years. Rumours of new World Showcase Pavilions have increased in recent times. While nothing has been confirmed, Brazil seems to be the front-runner. There are also rumours that Spain might be next.
Other rumoured changes to World Showcase include a Mary Poppins ride in the United Kingdom & a Coco update to the boat ride in Epcot.
Already complete or closed:-
An update to Mission Space has now been completed but it is still the worse ride in Walt Disney World in my opinion.
2017 saw us say goodbye to Ellen’s Energy Adventure & 2018 has seen the closure of the Circle of Life. Circle of Life is an attraction we suspect will be missed by few.
Kidcot has had a refresh for summer 2018. Kids will enjoy the new attractions which were overdue for a change.
