Hollywood Studios must be one of the World’s largest building sites. However; there are still plenty of fantastic attractions in the park, and the new Toy Story Land is great fun. Here are our Top Hollywood Studios Tips for 2019. We will update this guide once Star Wars: Galaxy Edge is open
Don’t skip Hollywood Studios
There might be a lot of construction currently in the park, but there are some fantastic attractions including some of the very best at Walt Disney World. You do not want to miss great attractions including: Toy Story Land, Star Tours and Tower of Terror.
You can do it in 1 day
Hollywood Studios is still just about a 1-day park. However, when the park is busy, you might need longer if you are visiting for the first time. As soon as Star Wars Galaxylaxy Edge opens 2 days will inevitably become the minimum.
Have a Fastpass Strategy
When visiting any of the Walt Disney World parks it is essential you understand the basics of Fastpass+. Fastpass+ is Disney’s attraction reservation system. Hollywood Studios has always had Fastpass Tiers which have restricted your advanced booking of the most popular attractions. The opening of Toy Story Land meant big changes to Hollywood Studios Fastpass Tiers:-
- The 3 Toy Story Land attractions: Slinky Dog Dash Coaster, Alien Swirling Saucers & Toy Story Mania now form a new Tier 1.
- All other attractions are now in Tier 2.
Guests are allowed to advance book one option from Tier 1 and two choices from Tier 2 each day they visit. You can book three selections from Tier 2 if you book no Tier 1 attractions. These tiers are likely to change again in late 2019 with the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy Edge and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
We have created a Hollywood Studios Fastpass Strategy which will help your planning.
Don’t go to Toy Story Land on Opening!
Everyone else will be heading to Toy Story land which means other attractions will have light crowds. Get the other attractions done first then visit Toy Story Land. To learn more about Toy Story Land visit our tour.
Use Single Rider
Rock N Roller Coaster does attract long waits. However; it is one of the few rides in Disney World that has a single rider option. Use it!
Are the kids big enough to ride?
Many of the Walt Disney World attractions do carry heaight restrictions and are enforced strictly. At the Hollywood Studios these are:
- Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Height Requirement 40 inches.
- Star Tours Height Requirement 40 inches.
- Rock n’ Roller Coaster Height Requirement 48″ inches.
- Slinky Dog Dash 38 inches.
- Alien Swirling Saucers 32 inches.
If the kids are too small, it does not mean you can’t ride. Our Guide to Rider Switch has further information.
Don’t miss Fantasmic
Rivers of Light might be the newest night-time spectacular at Walt Disney World, but Fantasmic is better. Plus the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Fireworks are well worth seeing too.
Have access to the park Wi-Fi.
Online access is essential in Walt Disney World. The My Disney Experience App is your essential guide to wait times, maps, showtimes & a lot more. Plus you can reserve Fastpass+ & make dining reservations on the App. Don’t even consider entering a Walt Disney World Park in 2019 without access to Wi-Fi.
Don’t miss the shows
Hollywood Studios is not all about rides. Shows should also play a major part of your day. Kids love the shows at Hollywood Studios, and you should catch a few of them. Beauty and the Beast, Frozen Sing-Along Celebration & Voyage of the Little Mermaid are great options.
Plan meal and drink breaks
Make sure you have plenty of breaks and drinks when in the park. Although Hollywood Studios is smaller than other parks you will still do a lot of walking. If you are on the Disney Dining Plan make sure you book an Advance Dining reservation.
Meet a Character
Hollywood Studios has several characters you can’t meet elsewhere. Current selections include:-
- Kylo Ren
- The Disney Junior Stars
Holywood Studios is also home to the legendary Character Palooza. The Character Palooza is an unpublished character meet and greet that occurs on any day there are performances of Fantasmic. Between 5 and 10, often rare, characters will appear. You will not see Character Palooza advertised anywhere and cast members will even deny it exists. Good luck finding it!

Failed to get a Fastpass at Toy Story Land?
Almost inevitably this will be something many guests will encounter.
Make sure you bring park essentials
Before your visit create a list of what you need to bring e.g. camera, phone, autograph book, poncho. Make sure you don’t forget the sunscreen & a good hat. Plus you will need access to plenty of water. However, do not take too much as you will be carrying it all day.
