Time for our August update on all the latest happenings at Walt Disney World. Nothing ever stays still for long at Walt Disney World and there has been plenty of changes over the last month. Our Walt Disney World News August 2018 Summary will bring you all the latest news at Walt Disney World.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Construction Update
The most exciting current project at Walt Disney World appears to be making fast progress. We took the following photographs from Toy Story Land during our recent visit. The tail of a spacecraft can now be seen in the top photo. Unfortunately, we still have over a year to wait until we see the completed project. The opening date is currently scheduled for late Fall 2019.

Eat to the Beat
We are just weeks away from the start of the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. The Eat to the Beat concerts is always one of the festival highlights. The final schedule has now been published for this year’s concerts including the return of my personal favourite Billy Ocean.
Walt Disney World Railroad & Tomorrowland Speedway Closing
Thankfully this is not a permanent closure but a temporary pause to make way for the building of the new Tron Attraction.
The Walt Disney World Railroad will temporarily take up residence at the Main Street Station starting in December 2018, pausing its grand-circle tours of Magic Kingdom Park. During this time, guests will be able to get an up-close look at the railroad and take advantage of one-of-a-kind photo opportunities. No date has been announced yet for the reopening of the railroad.
The Tomorrowland Speedway will close for a portion of 2019, as the attraction’s track is adjusted for Tron. Disney World has advised the attraction will reopen in time for Summer 2019.

No more plastic straws!
Disney has made announcements that the resort is going to become more environmentally friendly by mid-2019. The intention is to significantly cut the circulation of single-use plastic items including straws, carrier bags & stirrers. WDW Magic has further information.
Purchase of Fox
You will probably have heard the news that Disney is currently planning to purchase 21st Century Fox.
What could this mean for the theme park division? Based on the previous purchase of Marvel probably not a lot initially. However, Theme Park Insider have been pondering the future a little bit more.
