Hollywood Studios is currently one of the World’s largest building sites. However; there are still plenty of fantastic attractions at the park and once Toy Story Land opens this summer it will become a lot busier. Here are our Top Hollywood Studios Tips for 2018 so you can enjoy Toy Story Land and all the other fantastic attractions.
You can probably no longer do it in 1 day
Recently we felt this was the one Disney park that was achievable in 1 day. Now that Toy Story Land is opening & the new Star Wars attractions in 2019 this is unlikely to be the case.
Expect long waits for the new attractions. If you don’t have a Fastpass for Slinky Dog Coaster expect 3-4 hour waits.
Have a Fastpass Strategy
From the 30 June 2018, there are going to be big changes to Fastpass Tiers at Hollywood Studios:
- The 3 Toy Story Land attractions: Slinky Dog Dash Coaster, Alien Swirling Saucers & Toy Story Mania will form a new Tier 1.
- All other attractions will now be in Tier 2.
Guests are allowed to advance book one option from Tier 1 and two options from Tier 2 each day they visit. You can book 3 selections from Tier 2 if you book no Tier 1 attractions. To make sure you ride all your favourites you need to develop a strategy.
We have created a Hollywood Studios Fastpass Strategy which might help your planning.
Use Single Rider
Rock N Roller Coaster does attract long waits. However; it is one of the few rides in Disney World that has a single rider option.
Don’t miss Fantasmic
Rivers of Light might be the newest night-time spectacular but this is better. Don’t miss it!
Plus the Star Wars: A Galatic Spectacular Fireworks are well worth seeing too.
Have access to the park Wi-Fi.
Online access is essential in Walt Disney World.
The My Disney Experience App is your essential guide to wait times, maps, showtimes & a lot more. Plus you can reserve Fastpass+ & make dining reservations on the App.
Don’t even consider entering a Walt Disney World Park in 2018 without access to Wi-Fi.
Don’t miss shows
Hollywood Studios is not all about rides. Shows should also play a major part of your day.
Kids love the shows at Hollywood Studios. Try and make sure you catch a few of them.
Beauty and the Beast, Frozen Sing-Along Celebration & Voyage of the Little Mermaid are great options.
Plan meal and drink breaks
Make sure you have plenty of breaks and drinks when in the park. Although Hollywood Studios is smaller than other parks you will still do a lot of walking.
Meet a Character
Hollywood Studios has several characters you can’t meet elsewhere. Current selections include:-
- Kylo Ren
- The Disney Junior Stars
Holywood Studios is also home to the legendary Character Palooza. The Character Palooza is an unpublished character meet and greet that occurs on any day there are performances of Fantasmic. Between 5 and 10, often rare, characters will appear. You will not see Character Palooza advertised anywhere and cast members will even deny it exists. Good luck finding it!

Failed to get a Fastpass at Toy Story Land?
Almost inevitably this will be something many guests will encounter this summer. If you are attending on 2 days or have seen Fantasmic before consider taking advantage of this period. Whilst there remains some guesswork it is likely waits will be shorter during Fantasmic.
Make sure you bring park essentials
Before your visit create a list of what you need to bring e.g. camera, phone, autograph book, poncho.
Make sure you don’t forget the sunscreen & a good hat. Plus you will need access to plenty of water.
Pack your bag the night before. Remember to not take too much as you will be carrying it all day.
