Please keep YouTube Modern Life is Good on air and subscribe to our YouTube channel. We love Disney & Family Travel Vlogging and there are many more videos to come.
I started Modern Life is Good as a bit of a joke 18 months ago. The creation came after my eldest daughters fascination with “Star of Celebrity Masterchef” & “Mega-Star” Vlogger Marcus Butler.
At the time I had never heard of Marcus Butler or did I know what a vlog was. However I was soon fascinated by how somebody who seemingly had no talent(actually I was wrong he does) could have millions of followers, be making huge sums of money & be a key part of modern pop culture.
However; it isn’t just Marcus Butler there are hundreds if not thousands of stars of YouTube. All you need is a camera and access to YouTube and you can be part of this vlogging community.
I have been amazed by the high quality of many of these vlogs. Many of the best known Disney World bloggers I now watch more regularly than regular television.
In theory we can all be the next Marcus Butler. After all if Marcus Butler could rub shoulders with showbiz legends such as Syd Little on Celebrity Masterchef why couldn’t I?
If Marcus Butler can do it I must be able to. Or so I thought rather naively!
Modern Life is Good has changed since its early days. In the beginning it was a bit of a joke but gradually it has turned into something more. It has probably gone past the point of a hobby. The drive has become to create something more.
In the beginning it had no purpose except a ludicrous 1 million twitter follower or Youtube video challenge. Gradually it has become a more serious attempt at developing a family travel site. The focus has been on cruising & recently mostly Walt Disney World.
As a social media, blogging & vlogging virgin there has been a lot to learn. However, in recent months progress has been getting made. Traffic on the blog has increased a phenomenal 2500% in the last 10 months and on YouTube views have trebled in the last 6 months. It seems Modern Life really is Good!
There is still much to do:
- We are still learning to vlog although I think our recent videos show we are getting better.
- The website needs further expansion. I have a list of over 100 articles to still write.
- We have hundreds of hours of video to edit.
- We need to develop income streams on the website.
Whist the intention has never been to make a million dollars on this blog creating some income is a necessity.
To date the only source of income has been YouTube. For this I have received a very small amount of money which helps towards hosting. It isn’t much but it should allow me to further develop Modern Life is Good.
You may have seen that YouTube has been in he news a bit recently. From potential grooming to dead bodies the news hasn’t been positive. This negativity has caused concern with many YouTube advertisers who have withdrawn funding. It seems YouTube Life isn’t as Good as it was. YouTube had to take action over these rogue vloggers.
Today YouTube launched their response. The response is a bit confusing.
Instead of increased policing of YouTube there has been a blanket ban of small producers such as Modern Life is Good. From next month we will no longer be able to monetise our videos unless we have 1000 subscribers & gain 4000 hours of watch time in the last 12months.
The hours viewed requirement probably is achievable but we have never concentrated on gaining YouTube subscribers. There is just too much else to do to concentrate on this. My opinion is that our YouTube channel has always been part of www.modernlifeisgood.com and not our main purpose.
Unfortunately this means that come next month our only source of income will be gone.
