Opening Date

Disney’s Hollywood Studios debuted on May 1, 1989. It was the third Theme Park at Walt Disney World.

The Biggest Ever Hidden Mickey

The parks’ original layout featured a large Hidden Mickey which can be seen on aerial photographs of the park.

Original Name

The park was originally called Disney-MGM Studios.

The current name was introduced January 7, 2008. It is rumoured the name might soon be changing again.

It could have been in Epcot

Initially it was planned to have a Movie Themed Pavilion in Future World at Epcot. Once Universal announced their plans to open a park in Orlando Disney reversed their plans.

The restaurant is a replica of the original restaurant in Los Angeles. The original restaurant was destroyed by fire in 1987.

It is bigger than The Magic Kingdom

The park is 135 acres in size. Epcot and Animal Kingdom are bigger.

Not quite 200.

The Tower of Terror is 199 foot tall. If it was any taller it would need an aircraft warning light on top.

Sorcerer’s Hat

The Sorcerer’s hat is the former park’s icon. It was present from 2001-2015.

Earffel Tower

The Earffel Tower was the park’s original icon from 1989-2001.

Despite no longer being the park’s icon it lasted longer than the Sorcerer’s Hat. It was eventually removed April 29, 2016 to make room for Toy Story Playland.

Chinese Theatre

The Chinese Theatre is a full-scale recreation of the original Hollywood Theatre’s exterior and lobby.
