Papa’s Fish & Chips Review

September 9, 2017 by @Modlifeisgood 1 Comment

Papa’s Fish & Chips have expanded rapidly in Yorkshire in recent times. They claim to operate the World’s Largest Fish and Chips Restaurant. We visited their new restaurant in Cleethorpes. With over 500 covers it is hard to imagine a larger Fish & Chips Restaurant.

Papa’s Fish & Chips was founded in Margate in 1966 by the head of the Papas family from Cyprus. Today they have moved up north opening several restaurants.

Cleethorpes Pier was purchased by Papa’s for an undisclosed sum in December 2016. A costly conversion has been made to turn the venue into an upmarket Fish & Chips Restaurant. The pier dates back to 1873 and originally cost £8000. In recent years it has changed owners often and has on occasions included a nightclub, restaurants and public house.

The Papa’s restaurant is very impressive and they have returned many of the classic pier features. On the Saturday evening we dined the venue was crowded. It appears that Papa’s Fish & Chips was proving popular with both locals and tourists.

However; the crowds brought problems. Service was the slowest I have experienced in a Restaurant in many years. To say our waitress was poor would be an understatement.

The crowds were also having an effect on cleanliness and both the restrooms and dining room floor could have done with a deep clean.

The food however was good. In fact the food was excellent. Portions were massive and was some of the best Fish & Chips I have had.

Yummy!

Summary

Due to the standard of food Papa’s deserves another chance. However; I will probably avoid visiting on a Saturday evening.

Papa’s Fish & Chips is located on Cleethorpes Pier and is open 7 days a week. There is also a takeaway counter.
