Quick search on google or a look at twitter will show you numerous links on how to make money from your blog. The truth is most do not make this much and I have certainly not made a million dollars from my blog.
$100000 Dollars from my blog?…..no.
$1000 Dollars from my blog?…..no.
$1 Dollar from my blog?…..no.
Nothing?….yes! I have made nothing from my blog and I am going to show you how.
I will show you exactly how I am not going to make a million dollars from my blog this year. Perhaps this will give you hints on what to avoid and perhaps you can find the success I am not achieving.
To be honest I have actually made a few dollars from YouTube but apart from that not a penny.
So can you make money blogging? Well it seems you can. The number one blog in the world is the Huffington Post which earns a rather staggering $2500000 a month. Plus the are a selection of other high income blogs e.g. Perez Hilton earns a rather respectable $450000 a month from celebrity gossip.
After the top 20 or so blogs the money starts tailing off quite significantly. In fact the next list of bloggers seem to be about how to make money from your blog. Yes the people who tell you how to make a million dollars from your blog are the people earning a million dollars. Writing about something different probably does not earn you a million dollars. In fact it seems for the majority of blogs you will be lucky enough to earn enough to buy a cup of coffee a month. Of course all of this takes time and even the most successful blogs took time to become established.
So are the below blogs wrong that you can’t make big money blogging?
How to generate $1,ooo,ooo from your blog
This blog makes $100K per month
We Grew a Blog from ZERO to $6 Million…
Of course they are not wrong! You can make big money from blogging but the odds are stacked against you & you will probably not join them. For a start you have to blog about something people want to read. Also search engines will prioritize websites which are well established.
This was the first mistake this blog has made we are writing about family travel and particularly Disney & Cruising. This market is saturated already with many well established Cruise & Disney sites. The chances of getting above such sites on any search engine is slim. The truth is people will always visit the top sites first and in 2016 the odds are stacked against you joining them. Also by choosing a rather broad field for blogging it is less likely to get established in any market quickly. Getting a niche areas or it seems writing about how to make money increases your chances.
The next issue is getting to grips with social media. It is clear this can drive traffic and eventually income. However; it is time-consuming and for a part-time newbie blogger difficult. Whist this has driven traffic to this blog it is inconsistent and not in the numbers to generate any meaningful income. Whilst we have had some luck with Twitter other sites have been more difficult to get grips around.
Many of the blog advice sites suggest contributing to other blogs. This is difficult as for various reasons I seem to always get blocked by spam filters. Neutral none promotional comments have generated no traffic and slightly more direct approaches tend to get your comments deleted by the webmaster. It certainly hasn’t appeared to be if you scratch my back I will scratch yours with Bloggers. The “alpha male” blogger is very much in control.
Content is the biggest issue. Getting time to write content is difficult. Across multiple spectrums even more difficult. Writing contest that people actually want to read and keep coming back for more seems even more challenging. Getting content that is actually better than those established sites perhaps impossible.
Added to this search engine optimisation & running an actual website isn’t as easy as I expected. In fact the running of the website is very difficult. It is difficult to know if you are running things correctly and after 3 months I noticed comments couldn’t be added to any post. In addition due to the size of the project I have undertake the site is very much still work in progress and the Orlando Modern Life is Good Section is hardly likely to make people return.
You may have noticed that although I’m writing about not making any money from my blog the actually isn’t a way to make money on this site. Unfortunately the traffic generated to date does not make any advertising or affiliate marketing etc worthwhile. My thoughts was attempting this whilst still new would more likely drive traffic away. Perhaps this is wrong?
With no sign of ever gaining any income is it now time to give up blogging?
Well no it isn’t! Blogging is great fun and I’m fully enjoying my new part-time hobby even if nobody else does.
Will this blog ever make a $1000000?
If Perez Hilton can do it why can’t I?
Will I?
Probably not but the is no harm dreaming that I made a million dollars from my blog.
Love the post. I think we all dream of making a million from our blog
