Marcus at the Berkeley Hotel is the premier dining establishment for esteemed Celebrity Chef & Restaurateur Marcus Wareing. Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley opened in 2008 replacing the previous resident Petrus. Petrus was ran by Marcus Wareing and Gordon Ramsay. The Berkeley was Wareing’s first solo venture.

The restaurant had an extensive refurbishment in 2014 and named Marcus. Following its refurbishment it is described as having a more relaxed dining experience. The restaurant currently has 2 Michelin Stars.
We visited Marcus at the Berkeley Hotel in June 2016. Marcus delivers modern European menus with British influence. The dining room is a relaxing and contemporary setting. We found staff helpful & not pretentious.

The Berkeley itself was undergoing a lot of renovation and is not as impressive on the outside as many other famous London Hotels. Marcus is not easy to find on entry and we had to be directed by a member of the hotel staff.
To get through to Marcus we walked through the Berkeley’s afternoon tea which looked delicious and something to experience another day. I understand the afternoon tea follows a fashion theme and we couldn’t help notice the bright colours of the dishes.
Marcus serves a selection of menus depending on when you visit. Menus may include à la carte, 8 course Taste & a seasonal taste menu. Menus change regularly to use seasonal produce.

Our visit was linked with a Christmas Gift card so we experienced a 3 course à la carte menu. Our package also included sommelier recommended wine, coffee & gratuities. In addition to our 3 courses we were also served canapés & given a small cake to take home. The restaurant is expensive. However; compared to many other gift experiences I have experienced in recent years the package did represent good value for money.
All food was exceptionally well presented and tasted perfect. Service was efficient but the was enough time between courses to relax. Although all courses were faultless the 2 mains duck & lamb were exceptional.

It is easy to see why this restaurant has 2 Michelin Stars and is one of the most popular restaurants in London. Marcus does book up well in advance so bookings should be made early.

In summary Marcus is highly recommended for a special treat when next in London.
